Malek Dhane awarded the prestigious 2016 Morehead-Cain Scholarship

Lachine, April 7, 2016 – The Sainte-Anne community is extremely proud to announce that Malek Dhane, a graduating student in Health Sciences and President of Sainte-Anne’s general student association (AGÉSA), has been named a winner of the prestigious Morehead-Cain Foundation Scholarship to study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Selected from among more than 2,000 applicants from around the world, the 56 recipients of the Morehead-Cain Foundation Scholarship are chosen for an academic record that attests to a genuine thirst for knowledge. Leadership, moral integrity, personality, a commitment to physical activity, and a healthy, balanced lifestyle are also considered.

The University of North Carolina—the first public university in the United States—offers an exceptional academic environment. The scholarship, valued at more than $50,000 annually for four years, encourages personal development through volunteer involvement, travel and leadership activities held each summer. “I feel truly privileged to be one of the winners. These last few years have been a wonderful springboard to the future,” notes Malek Dhane, one of three Canadians selected.

“Malek is known for his empathy and generosity. Everyone appreciates him. This recognition, as well as the experience he is being offered, are well deserved and a logical extension of the many activities he has pursued since arriving at the college in the fall of 2014. Committees dealing with solidarity, the ecology and socio-cultural issues, the student newspaper and the student association—these are some of the many examples of the opportunities for involvement he embraced. Bravo Malek!” enthuses Ugo Cavenaghi, Executive Director of Collège Sainte-Anne.
