Lachine, February 12, 2019 – The president of the Superior Council of Education, Ms. Maryse Lassonde, announced on February 5 that Mr. Ugo Cavenaghi, executive director of Collège Sainte-Anne, will sit on the Commission on Preschool and Elementary Education, part of the Superior Council of Education. The Council will therefore be able to benefit from Mr. Cavenaghi’s expertise until August 31, 2020.

In this role, Mr. Cavenaghi will be involved in preparing draft opinions on themes related to preschool and primary education. He will be working with 14 other members renowned for their sprit of independence and rigour who are pillars of their respective environments.

Holder of an MBA from HEC Montréal and of a master’s in educational management from Université de Montréal, Mr. Ugo Cavenaghi has been the director of Collège Sainte-Anne, an institution recognized for its innovations, since 2006. Since 1992, when he began his education career as a teacher, Mr. Cavenaghi has constantly implemented a vision of bold education focused on developing students’ creativity.

Collège Sainte-Anne’s exponential development since Mr. Cavenaghi assumed the position of executive director attests to the significance of his contribution as well as his undeniable leadership. The addition of a college-level facility in 2011, followed by the addition of a primary school in 2014, are two of his major achievements. Mr. Cavenaghi is also one of the founding partners of the Factry, Montréal’s school of creativity sciences, and he coauthored the book Osons l’école : des idées créatives pour ranimer notre système éducatif (Daring to school: creative ideas for reviving our education system), published in 2017.

The Superior Council of Education was established to provide independent consultation and critical analysis. Its mission is to advise the Minister of Education and Higher Education and to give its opinion to the Minister on any education-related issues. The Council’s reflection is the fruit of discussions between its members based on scientific research, expert hearings and consultations with educational stakeholders.
